Flowline
Flushing
Where
a producing field comprises several remote wellheads and
a system of flowlines to collect the production into a single
processing facility, it is necessary to remove all the hydrocarbon
product from them to prevent future environmental contamination.
In the event that hydrocarbon deposits, scales or waxes
remain in a flowline which could break down over time and
cause future contamination, our company will perform a chemical
and mechanical pigging operation in order to clean the internal
surface of each flowline to parent metal. This then allows
save and rapid removal of the flowline if required using
hot cutting techniques.
Pipeline
Cleaning and Grouting
For
the abandonment of many redundant offshore, subsea pipelines
and flowlines a simple cleaning operation followed by a
raw seawater flooding operation is sufficient as the line
is then left to corrode away over a long period with no
risk to the environment or passing shipping.
The
key requirement for effective land pipeline abandonment
is to ensure that it will not constitute a long-term safety
hazard due to collapse, causing subsidence or by becoming
an unintended conduit for water, gas, etc. In the short
term, efficient cleaning of the pipeline will prevent any
contamination through product spillage or seepage and in
the longer term, a stable grout filled pipeline will prevent
the risks of subsidence and leakage of undesired substances
along the pipeline.
MCL
can provide a single crew and equipment spread to complete
all the related pipeline decommissioning operations using
purpose built and full flexible equipment in order to provide
the most cost effective solution to any project.
Pressure
Testing & Leak Detection
Pipe
freezing has proven itself to be the most effective method
for leak detection on long and cross country pipelines.
Pipes can be frozen above or in the ground depending upon
the particular installation. The freeze can be applied quickly
and the ice plug formed thaws rapidly when the pressure
test is complete. Several freezes can be applied at intervals
along a cross country pipeline, pressure tests applied between
the ice plugs, and by a process of elimination, the section
experiencing the leakage determined. The ice plugs formed
by the pipe freezing can withstand pressures of several
thousand psi, thereby allowing the integrity of pipelines
to be thoroughly tested.
