Live
Tank Repair on Liquid Natural Gas Tanks
- In
the early 1990's MCL (Offshore) Ltd was awarded a £1.3
million contract by Bechtel Limited for the repair and
refurbishment of live liquid natural gas tanks on the
Sonatrach site in Arzew, Algeria.
- The
project was completed during the period November 1993
- December 1994, for which commendations were received
from the client.
Live
Tank Repair on Liquid Natural Gas Tanks
- In
1996 MCL were called upon by Bechtel to advise on the
repair of large liquid gas storage tanks in Arjew, Algeria.
- The
problems which had to be overcome were mainly that the
tanks could not be taken out of commission and had to
be worked on live.
- MCL
designed a new method of repair such that all of the
repairs including that of replating and repair of in
excess of 3,000 leaks, followed by blasting and painting.
- All
of the work was completed on time, without incident,
and totally without interruption to the clients production
or storage.
- This
type of repair had not been previously undertaken on
live tanks.
- The
work was managed on behalf of the client by Bechtel
International for Sonatrach Algeria.
- Contract
Value £6.3 million (sterling)
Blasting
of side wall of above tanks
- Following
the success of the previous contract MCL were awarded
a contract for the side wall blasting of the LNG tanks.
Limitations were placed on the contract such that "open"
blasting was not permitted.
- MCL
introduced a new sealed vacuum blasting system and success
fully completed the project for Kellogg Brown & Roote
on the Sonatrach site, once again without incident.
- Contract
value £1.5 million (sterling)
The
following contracts are expected to be awarded to MCL based
on the customer's (Sonatrach) knowledge of our working practices.
The
workscope for the projects was designed by MCL following
a detailed inspection of all tanks and recommendations for
repair.
LNG
Tanks / Gasolene Storage Tanks
The
two separate contracts are for the external repair and painting
of the LNG tanks and replacement of all tank top furniture.
Whilst
the gasoline tanks require both internal and external repair
and painting including that of the floating roof.
Anticipated
contract value circa £14 million (sterling).
Replacement
of Sea Water Line (72" dia pipe line)
Approximately
500 metres of 72" dia sea water pipe line are to be replaced
including that of concrete foundation / supports and all
testing.
MCL
have designed and planned the schedule for this project
and anticipate award early March 2003.
Anticipated
contract value circa £1.8 million (sterling)
